Post #4: Michigan: A Month of Predictions and Surprises

1. My idea of Michigan pre-college:
The main reason I chose to come to the University of Michigan was because, though I am in no way athletic, I love schools that are so connected through sports.  My vision of the University was not just a academically prestigious school was a great football team, but one that also comes together through cheering them on.  And with so many students, they definitely do that.

2. What surprised me about Michigan:

What surprised me about college was that how
much freedom I got.  At home, I was never allowed to be out past a certain time, even on
weekends, but in college, I can be out as late as I
want (as long as it doesn't affect my studies)!

3. Where at Michigan I still want to go:

I grew up in Ann Arbor, so I used to hang out downtown and on
campus all the time.  In fact, one reason I chose to come to the
university was because of it's location.  However, I thought I
would be taking advantage of all parts of campus all the time, but I
haven't really gone anywhere past State street.  My goal is to try to
explore all parts of campus and downtown Ann Arbor, for there
are still tons of places I have never been to.

  1. Jessica- I connected with your first picture really well. College is about the whole experience, not just the academics. Picking a school that bonds over such a good athletic program was a great decision. Yes, I love the people I have met and the freedom I have, but there is nothing like a Saturday football game. It is as if you have 100,000 friends with you cheering on one team; hoping, praying, that they can get the ball past the line and win the game.

  2. I especially liked the first photography of your essay. In a way, most people have the preconception that Michigan Football is the prominent aspect of The University of Michigan. While I had the same ideals coming into college, I could have never imagined how great of an experience the football games are, or how much they bring the university and its fans, together as a whole. I also enjoyed your third photo just because most people come to Michigan with no familiarity of the area. The fact that you are a local, but want to discover more really stood out to me.

  3. It's cool that you still have an open mind about exploring new things in A2 even though you've lived here forever. I feel like some of the people that I've met who are from Ann Arbor think the opposite.
